More Branson PIctures - Pictures for Today

 

Terry is getting into the spirit of the passenger experience of riding the "Duck" at Branson. We were told to blow on the quackers when we saw another duck and when the driver's jokes were way too corny. Lynden told Terry that he was told he was quacking too much on the occasion he took some kids with him on the duck. Terry and Lynden are a lot alike when you give them something like this. It is just too tempting to overdo it.

I took a picture of this restaurant because it has a big chicken in front of it. I thought that was special.

 This is the mountain after the rocs were quarried from it for the Table Rock Dam.

 

 

This is what the 'duck' looks like. It is an amphibious vehicle that was used in World War II to move troops and supplies across places without bridges and be able to truck across to the place they were needed. The driver said the wheels keep spinning even when it is in the water. I think this was a highlight of our time in Branson.

We drove into the woods in the duck.

 

We are on the water. These are some of the passengers looking at the riverboat located on the lake.

 

They allowed all passengers who wanted to get behind the wheel on the lake. Terry did it after a little urging from me. Even a little 4 year old took a turn.

The riverboat also travels on the water and has a show going on. We wanted to enjoy the water this time instead of watching a show on the water. We went to the Pierce Arrow Show that evening.

We are in the duck on Table Rock Lake. It was a beautiful, peaceful day.

 

 

We both rode the Vigilante zip line located close to the Shepherd of the Hills sight. Terry is escorting a  96 year old lady who rode the zip line at the same time we did. There were lines that they send off at the same time. It  starts at the top of a very tall tower and the line stretches across the tops of trees half a mile long. The seats were comfortable and you didn't have to have straps around your legs. We were secured in and it was a fun ride. Terry rode it a second time because the second ride was discounted. lol. He loves zip lines.

I have a movie of my ride, but it didn't want to download on this. I will see what I can do.

 

After the zip line, we went to see the Titanic museum. It was very sad but interesting The we ate with Lynden and Starley at their condo and the went to see the Chinese Acrobats. That was some show and worth seeing.

A Craft from Pinterest I Had to Try - Pictures for Today

 

The young man reclining in his chair is Terry. He is resting after doing a couple of projects for me for the events I do with my books. He made a frame for a nice backdrop for the booths I set up. He then did something for me for he project I wanted to try from Pinterest.

 

First, he cut 2- 8X12 pieces of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)

 

Then, he used his router and positioned a keyhole in the top middle of each board so that the project could be hung on a wall.

I spread out a newspaper and started painting the front and edges with gray paint.

 

The only gray paint I had was metallic, but I thought that might be a good touch.

 

I left striations in the paint for texture.

 

I had gone to town to purchase some Modpodge for this project, but couldn't find any. I remembered there was a recipe for homemade Modpodge on Pinterest and looked it up on my computer. Come to find out, the homemade stuff is made from a mixture of half regular school glue and half water. Stir together. I only needed about 1/4 cup to do this project for two pictures. (Two coats)

I spread my homemade glue stuff on the painted front of the board and placed the 8X10 photo on it face up. I smoothed the picture with a soft rag. The instructions say to use a plastic trowel to smooth the picture out.

 

I was a little nervous about putting the glue solution over the picture so I waited to see what happened after it dried to do the second one. I forgot to make a copy of the picture on the copy machine so I had to be sure it worked. (Sometimes my attempts at the Pinterest projects don't pan out too well. Many times they do.)

 

These are shots of the finished project. The picture has a matte finish. It isn't exactly like a canvas look, but I like it. There is a project like this that you use a stretched canvas and use the same process. The only difference is that you are supposed to rub the back of the picture on the backside of the canvas. 

I made these for my sister who is the great-grandmother of the pretty baby in the picture. The second one is for my nephew who is the grandfather of this baby. I can hardly wait to take them into town and see how they like them.

Branson Fun Pictures for today

This is the first part of our Branson trip. Our friends, Lynden and Starley, took us to Table Rock Lake and the area around there. We enjoyed looking around the area next to the river boat. It was a beautiful day.

Terry and Lynden, they have been friends since babyhood. Really!

 

Terry took this picture of me and it was like pulling teeth. The grounds keeper was snickering in the background about all the questions Terry asked about the camera and my clipped answers while I was trying to look pleasant.

 

This is the fish hatchery just below Table Rock Dam.

 

Our next stop was the School of the Ozarks and their farm implement museum.

 

Interesting stuff and some of it will probably be in one of the next books.

 

This window was on the old mill. The glass was wavey and old. It was beautiful.

See the cream colored antique crock. It was massive. Another container is behind Terry and  is a hollowed out log. That must have been a huge tree.

 

Upstairs, there was a room full of these looms. In the School of the Ozarks they teach them how to weave.

 

This beautiful bench is made of hickory. (I think that is what its said.) I sat in it to see if it was pokey and uncomfortable. It really was comfortable. I liked it.

This was a hotel lobby at the School of the Ozarks. It is where they train students in hotel management. It is a working hotel. The School of the Ozarks and the museum and fish hatchery is free to tourists.

Speaking at Arnett, OK Was a Great Time - Pictures of the Day

The women of the United Methodist Church of Arnett, Oklahoma invited me to come and speak at their women's night out. They are a very pretty church fellowship hall that has been recently completed.

 The women were so nice and I really enjoyed the lovely voice of the young lady who sang for us.

 Did I mention that those girls can put together a wonderful spread? The salads were yummy!

Terry even had a plate after eating at a restaurant in Shattuck! That man loves good food.
